Just another routine Venice sunset…

You don’t realize how privileged you are as a photographer until you are placed in the company of two special people.

Yesterday, I was at Sharkey’s in Venice, FL, taking pictures of that world famous Sunset. I happened to a see a couple sitting on the beach near the area I was planning the next shot. Since it was a fair composition, I decided to place them in the shot. Something told me to approach them and see if they wanted to be included in a couple of impromptu photographs. They were gracious an agreed.

I ran back to grab my camera and tri-pod. Since the sun is setting quickly at this point, I had to work fast and did not have time to grab a flash (which I really needed). I started snapping away, checking exposure the best I could. Unfortunately, the low light didn’t let me focus on Kieran and Fred that well, but I did the best I could.

After we were done, Fred went to get a pen and paper to give me their email address. At this time Kieran told me that they were their remembering the 1 year anniversary of their 16 year old daughters passing - they had buried her ashes on the beach and were taking it all in.

I’m a tough guy but it hit me like a Mac truck - I almost lost it right there in front of a stranger I didn’t know. I immediately thought of my my daughter who is 17 and what life would be like with out her. Your heart breaks for this couple. But they are doing fine and they have some much love for each other.

Here I was trying to get a nice picture and it turned into something much more.

Hi everyone. I will be in the Venice/Sarasota FL area June 10th - 21st and then again towards the 25th - 30th to do beach photography.

I am doing some TFP with models and couples and hope to book a couple of family sessions on Englewood Beach, Sharkey’s Pier, & downtown Venice.

Since my PC is in storage and I didn’t have a suitable picture of Venice beach, Clay Coleman has graciously allowed me to use his cool sunset photo of Venice. Thanks, Clay! I will be featuring Clay’s work in an upcoming post.
